- Is there a minimum GPR requirement to be admitted into the Fellows Program?
There is no set cumulative GPR criteria for the Fellows Program. You must not have received a grade below C in any CBK course completed by summer 2008 AND must have received at least 2 grades above C among CBK courses completed by summer 2008.
- When can I apply for the Fellows Program?
Apply at the beginning of the fall semester of your sophomore, junior, or senior year, providing that you will be taking classes at Texas A&M the following spring semester. Additionally, applicants must also be admitted into upper-level business classes at the time of their application.
- What do you do in Fellows?
Fellows is a one-semester program that counts for three credit hours. The course meets every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. During class, lectures cover a variety of personal and professional development topics. Fellows also participate in a leadership retreat, The Samurai GameŽ Experience, community service activities, an optional Spring Break trip to New York City and other professional development activities.
- What's the application process like?
At the beginning of the fall semester, informational meetings are held to explain the application process to interested students. The first round consists of a written application that requires three letters of recommendation, a current resume, information regarding college activities and leadership involvement, and responses to two essay questions. In the second round, Fellows Program directors and coordinators will interview each candidate who passes the first round.
- What are the requirements for acceptance?
To be accepted into the Fellows Program you must demonstrate leadership capabilities and the capacity to work as an effective team player. Furthermore, you must possess attributes such as flexibility, self-awareness, and excellent communication skills.
- How many students are selected each year?
Although the number varies, there are normally about 50 students selected each year to represent the Mays Business School Fellows Program.
- How much of a time commitment does the Fellows Program require?
The Fellows class meets every Wednesday night from 6 to 9 p.m. during the spring semester. Several required activities may occur on various weekends during the year, in addition to a number of optional events. A commitment to the Fellows Program is equivalent to the amount of time and work most classes require.
- How will being a Fellow benefit me while I'm in college and after I graduate?
While in college, Fellows have the opportunity to develop lasting friendships and establish a network of both current and former Fellows who serve as dynamic and unique business contacts in numerous industries after college. Participants in the Fellows Program also develop leadership and professional characteristics that set them apart from other graduates in the eyes of future employers.
- What can I do to better prepare myself for applying to the program?
You can prepare for applying to the Fellows Program by becoming involved in different organizations and clubs on campus, around the community, and especially in the business school. Additionally, take on leadership roles in your organizations and be an active participant in any teamwork situation. Finally, you must possess a personal desire to learn and grow both professionally and personally, which can set you apart from other candidates.
